Good Morning

We survived Monday!!!! Why do Mondays seem to be so hard at work. The weatherman has promised us a beautiful spring like day this morning. I will open up the windows in my office and let the clean fresh air in. I have a friend whose sister has been very sick for some time now, this last trip to the hospital has so far lasted over 6 weeks. I thought I would send her this little card and wish her a speedy recovery. Only thing is if she has been on a liquid diet all this time, the last thing she would want is chicken broth or soup. Maybe all of you can take a moment to say a prayer for Sharon. Thanks.

Heather's One Little Spark

Heather's challenge this week was: Make a card with a raised, dimensional element!

Well here is my take on life: Shoes & Friends..You can never have too many. I used the little foam dots to make the shoe stand out from the card. Pat does this card remind you of a special pair of shoes you might have purchased *wink *wink.

I hope everyone has enjoyed there weekend. My husband and I drove about an hour to a little town named "Mayberry" today. Yes, from "The Andy Griffin Show" They have a statue of him and Opie going fishing. But we went for the FOOD. We ate at Goober's resturant. They have the best homemade hamburger. It is so large, we just get one and half it. It was still too much for me with the french fries and the special drink I had. A RC float. They served it in the stainless steel container, so it had ice crystals all over it. What a treat for me.

Pat's Saturday Night Challenge

Pat had another neat challenge again this week. I don't recall ever making a tri-fold card before. I had to test out two or three folds before settling on this one. I have a friend who is having a birthday in a a couple of days, so i decided to make a birthday card out of the challenge.

Difficult

It is so difficult for me to make sympathy cards. In all honesty there is really nothing you can say or do to ease the person's grief. With this in mind, I thought simplicity would be the best.
"It's the circle of life, and it moves us all, through despair and hope, through faith and love, 'till we find our place, on the path unwinding. " --John, Elton, The Lion King

Finally, Friday

For some reason this has been a long week, I guess maybe because I had a short work week last week. I have got spring fever. I am opening up windows and airing out the house. A friend shared with me yesterday, that he had his onion sets planted, and his lettuce bed prepared. I hope the Easter Bunny, doesn't go calling on him. It is suppose to be high 70's today, but then on Sunday, just be in the low 50's. Well it is still March, what should I expect? Some of you may have already seen this card, but since I am still working on remodeling the bath, I haven't had a lot of time for new things. Heather had a challenge about two weeks ago, and this was what I came up with. We were to use a new technique. She will have a new challenge today, so maybe I'll have something new to post over the weekend. Also, I am looking forward to Pat's Saturday Night challenge.

Explosion of Color

Isn't this a beautiful explosion of color. It is a spider lily that I have growing in my flower bed. It blooms mid to late summer here in NC. My son took the photo three years ago, when he gave me the flower. Wasn't it a beautiful gift, one that will always be here, and bring a smile to my face. The first smile when I see it popping through the ground in the spring, Then, I smile with anticipation all summer waiting for that explosion of color. Thank you, D.W.

The Bad Easter Bunny

These are pictures of the lettuce in my garden, before the Easter Bunny came on Sunday, and after he came. Bad, Bad Easter Bunny!

Brrrrr

We had a spring freeze last night. I hate it affected some of our early budding trees and shrubs.

This is my pitiful entry for Heather's Friday Night Spark. I think what Pat, at SouthernBreezes entered is more of what Heather had in mind. We will blame it on the fact I'm still working on that wallpaper. This will remind us that summer is really just around the corner. SO LADIES, LET'S GET THESE BODIES IN SHAPE!!!!!

Pat's Challenge

Pat at Southernbreezes sure had a hard challenge this past Friday night.

Here were her rules for the challenge:

Rules for tonight's challenge: Choose the color you want to work with - you can use as many shades of this color as you like. Inks, ribbons, embellishments should all be in this same color family. One to three pictures can be included on the layout. Deadline is midnight Monday. Winner will be announced on Wednesday.

Like Pat, I worked with several different colors before deciding on these. My husband took these photos last fall when we went to visit my cousin, who lives on a beautiful farm in Todd, NC. I hope you enjoy the pictures as much as I enjoyed reminiscing about the visit I had while working on the layout. Thanks Pat, for making me use my brain on this one.

Happy Easter

Today is a bittersweet day. A dear friend of 20 years, passed in October of 07. Today would have been her birthday. On her 80th birthday I made a mini album for her. I am showing a couple of pages of it. Her husband of over 50 years survives her, and 4 children, their spouses, and grandchildren, and many, many friends, that she adopted as her own. Of which I was so lucky to be blessed to be a part of that adopted family. We miss her terribly.

Happy Birthday, NANNY.

Just one more card

I promise this will be the last Easter card I post till next year. (I do have my fingers crossed under the desk *wink *wink). I am meeting with a friend later on today, and decided I need to take her a card, she will have her granddaughter with her, so I will take her one of the little purses with the Easter treats inside.

p.s. Yes I am still stripping that wallpaper!!!!!!! And yes I know I am having people at my house tomorrow for a meal. I don't hear any of you volunteering to help a fellow blogger. Have a beautiful Saturday. Take time to enjoy NATURE to day.

First Day of Spring

Yesterday was the official first day of Spring. It has looked that way at my house in the Foothills of NC, for several weeks now. This is a picture I took today of some daffodils at my house. There was quite a breeze so the picture "moved" on me. I was thinking about the many names these flowers have here. Some call them daffodils, others call them Easter Lillies, and the older people call them March flowers. Take your pick, but I think I will just call them beautiful.

Multitasking

My friend Pat, explained, just what it was that I was doing tonight - MULTITASKING.
I fixed dinner, made Boston Cream Pie for dessert, was emailing her, going through the mail, and stripping wallpaper off the bathroom walls, all at the same time. Don’t ask me why I started stripping the wall paper tonight, knowing that on Sunday, that my whole family will be at my house for a traditional Easter dinner. I guess I will just put a sign on the bathroom door, work in progress. But what they really don’t know is that after dinner, they all get to help finish the bathroom. Aren’t I the "crafty" one?

So, I have taken the easy way out, I will share with you an altered mint tin that I made for my older granddaughter for Valentines Day. I tease her that she doesn’t carry a purse, she carries luggage, So I thought this would help her organize a bit. She is a freshman in college, works a full time job, and of course has a very active social life. But the nice thing about her, she still finds time for family.
Thanks for looking.

Hung Up On Easter

I thought I would share what I consider cute little purses. When I was growing up we always got a new outfit for Easter Sunday, and it would include new shoes and a matching purse. Aren’t memories wonderful??
I have to admit, I cheated on these. They are from K&Company and all you do is punch them out, glue them together and add the embellishments that are included and you are finished in less then 10 minutes. I am going to use these to put little treats in for my postal lady, my paper lady and my hairdresser, and the list goes on. They are so fun to make, I can give one to everyone, that is unless I eat all the little Hershey kisses, that go in them, before Sunday.

"Where’s the Easter Bunny"

Here is the entry for SouthernBreezes Saturday night challenge. Pat said the rules were:
RULES FOR THE CHALLENGE....one container altered to become a brilliant new container for Easter treats or holiday chocolates! Be sure to take "before" and "after" pictures so we can see the transformation. It's okay to eat some of the goodies while you work *wink, wink* Have fun!!!

My husband loves cashews, so we always have bunches of these cans shoved up in a cabinet somewhere, falling out and hitting you on top of the head, when you open the cabinet door. He fusses, but I ignore. He uses them to put little nails and stuff in, is why we always kept them around, but Pat gave me a new reason to save even more of them, or a reason for him to eat more cashews.

I tried using a piece of 12x12 patterened paper, but it was too short to go around it, so I went to my wrapping paper tub and found this Easter wrapping paper. It worked perfectly. The eggs on top of the lid I cut out of some Easter napkins that I had stashed away, The ribbon I found in my ribbon remnant jar. This turned out to be a very economical little Easter treat container. The cute little peep is actually children’s bubbles. What child doesn’t enjoy blowing bubbles, heck what adult still doesn’t enjoy blowing bubbles? Thanks, Pat for this fun challenge.

Sunday, March 16, 2008

Well, this is my first experience at blogging. I'm also a newcomer in scrapbooking and card making so please be patient with me. Thanks to my good friend Pat over at SouthernBreezes for setting up this entire thing for me. She is one of those people that can do just about anything she puts her mind to. She is also my mentor in this scrapbooking and card making chapter of my life.
Pat is on the Design Team at the Scrapbook Cafe, and her daughter, Heather, is a designer for A Muse stamp company. They both have weekly challenges so I will start this blog with my entries for their challenges this week. This is my entry for Heather's "Share Your Spark" Friday challenge, which was to make a simple one layer card.
Thanks for looking - hope you enjoy it!!
